The three-day global startup event InnoVEX successfully concluded on 31st of May which attracted 18,000+ visitors from all over the world. Our team from Research Stash had a chance to interact with various speakers and startups during the event.

The event boasted innovative startups teams from both Taiwan as well as other countries who are looking for support and partnership opportunities in the Asian market.

InnoVEX is an annual startup event organized by TCA in association with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council. It is a feature exhibit of COMPUTEX TAIPEI, one of the global leading ICT, IoT & Startup trade shows, where you spot the perfect fit in markets, accelerators, VCs and partners. 3 days of events included displays, forums, pitch, demos, workshops and startup tour.

This year’s InnoVEX was based on a theme of New Thinking, New Engineering and New Future provided a platform to showcase innovative startups in the areas of AI, Biotechnology, Blockchain, IoT Applications, Smart Machinery, SportsTech and startup ecosystems.

The event was a grand success and attracted 467+ startups, 40+ speakers and 20,000+ speakers from 24 countries. The startups had an opportunity to compete for a staggering 420,000 USD worth of prize pool. InnoVEX 2019 had a highest pitch prize pool awarded by Startup Terrace, Qualcomm, Taiwania Capital and Taiwan Tech Arena.

With 10 finalists from Taiwan, Hong Kong, and South Korea; the final round showed great innovations and solutions that answer real-world issues. The level of pitching finalists continues to impress the judges who commented that the competition was both fierce and tight; with many teams only separated by a tiny margin.

The startup pitch contest was judged by various industry experts such as Ravi Belani, managing director of Alchemist Accelerator, Shinzo Nakano, president a& CEO of Itochu Technology Ventures, Amit Pradhan, President of Silicon Valley Blockchain Society and David Weng who is the CEO of Taiwania Capital Management Company.

The Grand Prize of InnoVEX 2019 was the Taiwan Tech Award which is worth USD 100,000: the award consists of USD 30,000 cash, USD 20,000 in placement at Taiwan Tech Arena for 1 year, and USD 50,000 in company training program & resources from TTA/TIEC.

This year’s Taiwan Tech Award was won by MedFluid, a biotech startup that focuses on using microfluidic IC to improve the healthcare quality of infectious patients by supporting the precise antibiotic prescription. MedFluid was also one of the winners of the Startup Terrace Award.

The Taiwania Capital Innovation Award was sponsored by Taiwania Capital that was worth USD 10,000 for startups in IoT or biomedical. The winner of this award was MTAMTech; a biotech startup that aims to resolve issues with the ineffective treatment of cancer patients through personalization of treatment.

The Qualcomm Innovation Award was sponsored by Qualcomm Incorporated worth USD 10,000; awarded to startups in AI & Big Data, AR/VR/XR, Hardware & IoT, or 5G applications. The winner of this award was Ganzin Technology; a startup that created an AR/VR eye tracking module.

The Startup Terrace Award and Startup Terrace JIC Award provide the winning startups with USD 60,000 as well as resources such as free residency in the Startup Terrace. The JIC Award was awarded for startups that use AWS cloud service for their core products or services. The winners of the Startup Terrace Award are: MIFLY, OSD, PurCity, and MedFluid and the Startup Terrace JIC Award was secured by OMNIEYES.
